Community gets into the spirit of Seafest

05 Dec, 2011 01:00 AM
THE inaugural Seafest exceeded all expectations last month, as hundreds gathered to celebrate Triabunna's rich marine history in grand style.

Premier Lara Giddings made the journey to the port-side town to officially open the festival, only to receive a cut upper lip when christening the festival by breaking a champaign bottle on the bow of a boat.

Ms Giddings praised the Triabunna District High School and Glamorgan- Spring Bay Council on their wonderful initiative.

About 300 local school children enjoyed a day of fun and games on the festival's opening day.

Triabunna school principal Annette Parker said the committee is looking to make the festival bigger and better next time around.

"The festival was originally intended to be a biannual event but because it was so successful there are ongoing conversations as whether to hold it every year," she said.
